Remembering the great explorer, Sir Edmund Hillary, the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre is home to an informative museum and theatre. A visit to the Alpine Centre is a great adventure for all ages, with the interactive displays capturing the attention and imagination of younger visitors. The in house theatre seats up to 126 people and is the only theatre in the world to include a 2D and 3D screen as well as a Digital Dome Planetarium all under the same roof.

The theatre plays a number of movies and documentaries including Hillary on Everest and Primeval New Zealand in 2D, Mount Cook Magic in 3D and features such as Black Holes and Infinity Express on the Digital Dome Planetarium screen. Times vary throughout the year so be sure to check online for the current schedule or at the Activities Desk upon your arrival.

If you're looking to learn about the history of the Aoraki/Mount Cook region as well as about the famous explorer, Sir Edmund Hillary, then the museum is where you'll want to be. With a number of displays depicting the history of the region from transport, climbing and more, you'll learn a great deal about this beautiful part of New Zealand and this extraordinary adventurer.
