Merewether Beach Ocean Baths

The Newcastle region of NSW boasts a lovely coastline, and there are few better ways to take advantage of its offerings than a dip in the Merewether Beach ocean baths which have long been a fixture of the city's waterfront. Having undergone a recent extensive multimillion dollar renovation, the baths are the largest of their kind in the Southern Hemisphere and feature two large pools - one deep main pool and a shallower pool ideal for kids - and are well patrolled to boot.

Combining outstanding views of the surrounding headland with spacious waters in which to swim (with sections divided up into lanes), and plenty of facilities nearby, it's one of Newcastle's most distinctive and enjoyable attractions. If you love the water, the Merewether Baths are a must.
