An exciting half-day adventure, the Red Rocks Coastal Walk located on Te Kopahou Reserve is an enjoyable 30 to 40 minute trail along the coast. Formed 200 million years ago, the red rocks on the bay are a result of an underwater volcanic eruption. The walking trail is a relatively easy journey from Owhiro Bay to Sinclair Head where, during the months of May to October, you can watch locals New Zealand Fur Seal colonies sunning themselves on the rocks.
Combining beautiful scenery with impressive wildlife, the Red Rock Coastal Walk is an ideal journey for visitors to the Wellington region. Along the trail are various other points of interest include historic gun emplacements and lookouts that were built during the major wars back in the 1900's, these stopping points offer walkers incredible views over the bay.
